AT&T

by on Mar.08, 2006, under General

I used to work for a baby bell, BellSouth Mobility from 1997-1999. A few years later in 2001, SBC Wireless and BellSouth Mobility decided to merge their wireless units to compete in the marketplace … that company became Cingular. Cingular the #2 carrier in 2004 buys the AT&T Wireless the #3 carrier in order to boost themselves to the #1 wireless phone company. Meanwhile SBC (60% partner in Cingular) buys the rest of AT&T's operations late in 2005 and decides to takes their name. Kinda funny, it would be like Rome take control of England and changing their empire name to the English Empire. Now AT&T, the company formerly known as SBC, is buying BellSouth (40% partner in Cingular who bought AT&T wireless). In case your confused, that's probably how they like it. So SBC and BellSouth will now be AT&T and Cingular will most likely be called AT&T Wireless. Ma Bell (AT&T) was forced to break up in 1984. 22 years later, they are getting closer to their old power base.
